Working Spousal/Domestic Partner Surcharge

Are you planning to enroll your spouse or domestic partner, who is employed at another company, in a USS medical plan for 2022? Do they have insurance available from their own employer? If so, it will cost extra: $100 per month or $1,200 per year.

Why is this change necessary?

Adding this surcharge now helps to keep your medical coverage sustainable over time, while still providing you with robust offerings. This surcharge is also in-line with what other companies and industries are doing.

Here’s how it will work.

The surcharge will be automatically added when you enroll a spouse or domestic partner. However, during the enrollment process you will be required to answer a question indicating if your spouse or domestic partner does not work or is not eligible for coverage through their employer.

If you answer that your spouse or domestic partner does not work or is not eligible for coverage through their employer, the surcharge will be removed.
