What is New for 2022?
Consistent Medical Plans
USS continues to offer employees choice with 3 Cigna medical plans and employees located in California have the additional option of Kaiser.
Cigna $500 Deductible Plan
- The out-of-pocket maximum is $2,000 individual and $4,000 family for network coverage.
- ER copay is $250.
- Brand formulary copay is $50.
- Non-Brand formulary copay is $75.
Cigna $1,000 Deductible Plan
- The out-of-pocket maximum is $4,000 individual and $8,000 family for network coverage.
- ER copay is $250.
- Brand formulary copay is $50.
- Non-formulary copay is $75.
Cigna HDHP With HSA Plan
- The deductible is $2,500 individual and $5,000 family.
- The out-of-pocket maximum is $5,000 individual and $10,000 family.
- Members’ coinsurance is 10%.
Kaiser HMO and DHMO Plans
- Only employees in California are eligible.
- Two Kaiser plans will continue to be offered, alongside Cigna, for employees in California.

Lower Your Prescription Costs
For all three Cigna Medical Plans: You can fill your prescriptions for 90 days at a Cigna Specialty Pharmacy or through mail order at a lower cost! This program is intended to help offer more convenience and a lower-cost option for your maintenance medications. To participate, work with your provider to transition your 90-day prescription to mail order or a Cigna Specialty Pharmacy. Get started by calling the number on the back of your ID card to work with Cigna member services to find the pharmacy closest to you.
New Benefit for 2022!
USS will be offering employees Critical Illness coverage through Cigna. In addition to the new plan options of Critical Illness, both Accident and Hospital Indemnity will have lower premiums and improved plan design for 2022.
Making Your Healthcare Dollars Go Further
Health Savings Account (HSA)
Sign up for a tax-free Health Savings Account (HSA) when you enroll in the Cigna HDHP with HSA plan. USS will contributing to your HSA account up to $500 for employee-only coverage or up to $1,000 if you cover dependents. All contributions will be prorated based off of benefit effective date. Unused money deposited into your Health Savings Account will automatically roll over and is yours even if you leave USS.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
The Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) remain available. FSAs are offered with all plans except for the Cigna HDHP with HSA Plan. Up to $550 of unused funds in your Health Care FSA will automatically roll over for qualified expenses for the next year.
You can contribute up to $3,650 for an individual or $7,300 for a family into an HSA in 2022. USS contributions count toward this maximum.

Get Fit
When you sign up for a Cigna Medical Plan you are eligible for a fitness reimbursement of up to $150 per individual, or $300 per family per calendar year in qualified health club membership fees, fitness class fees or online fitness class subscriptions. Quit Tobacco
In 2022 we are introducing a tobacco/nicotine surcharge on medical coverage if anyone on the plan uses tobacco products. Sign up for a tobacco cessation program through Cigna or Kaiser today.
